Rotala indica is an excellent aquarium plant that adapts to most typical water conditions. It prefers good water quality with pH of 6.0-7.5, hardness of 3-8 dGH and temperature should be between 72 and 82° F.

It is a relatively undemanding aquarium plant and in conditions of high light and nutrients with CO2 supplementation, it grows quickly and spreads across the surface of the water.

For optimum growth lighting should be 3 to 5 watts per gallon provided by full spectrum (5000-7000K) bulbs. It can be planted directly on the bottom substrate of the aquarium. The substrate should be plain sand or small granulated gravel. It needs to be pruned regularly to keep their shape attractive. Without pruning, the plant takes a bushy appearance which makes a suitable place for fry or brood fish. The tank should have lean nitrate levels (~5 mg/l), high phosphate levels (~1.5-2 mg/l), and heavy, regular dosing of iron and trace elements which produce intense coloration and vigorous growth.
